Broken Treaty Series: Warriors and Running Horses Shield
This Broken Treaty painting is probably the best one I have ever painted in the series. It has a circle of running horses galloping around a buffalo sun bonnet shield. There are four warriors sunning along with them, and four directions turtles The turtle totem represents longevity and wisdom, and in many Native cultures was part of the creation myth and connection with Mother Earth. The Warrior totem represents honor and duty.
This original was painted with fluid acrylics and drawn with an acrylic pen.
The Broken Treaty Series uses a Dakota Territories map from the Library of congress, torn and collaged onto canvas. Then I paint on top of the map. The series is Broken Treaty because every treaty with Native nations were broken.
This piece is 60 x 48 inches, on canvas, ready to hang with wire. Shipping is at cost, and will need to be calculated since it is so big this painting ships freight.
